Red Lantern Pictures is an independent film studio focused on telling bold, atmospheric stories. While we are especially drawn to horror, our goal is to explore many different genres and create films that leave a lasting impression on audiences.Red Lantern Pictures was created in 2025 by Joa Contreras, a student filmmaker. Based in Wellington — the leading city of film in New Zealand — the studio was founded as a way to bring original ideas to life and collaborate with other passionate creatives.As an indie studio, Red Lantern Pictures values practical filmmaking, creative experimentation, and the freedom to tell stories that larger studios might overlook. While horror is our main specialty, we are passionate about exploring many genres and pushing our creativity with every project.At its core, Red Lantern Pictures is about gathering passionate people, telling meaningful stories, and continuing to create.
